If it seeks like small business finance has gotten more complicated, I think it is simply because it has! While this is surely an area in which differing opinions exist, a clear and consistent trend is emerging that confirms that commercial loans made to small businesses are on a steady downward trend over the past three years. Some observers will probably continue to insist that nothing of significance has really changed during this time, but these folks are probably bankers whose livelihood depends on presenting the best possible outlook or politicians who want to take credit for better economic circumstances whether they exist or not. Last week a government agency proudly announced that the recession officially ended over a year ago. I expected one politician after another to take exception with that kind of false depiction, but of course so far this has not happened. It seems like as far as small business finance goes, a realistic assessment is hard to find anywhere.
