When to Make an Accident Claim

If you have been involved in an accident that was not your fault and have been injured, then you may want to make an accident claim. You may decide to wait a while before you do so or you may want to get it over and done with as soon as possible. But when is the best time to make a claim?

It is a really good idea to think about your claim quite quickly. You only have a limited amount of time to make the claim. For most injuries it is three years, but do not think that is so long away that you can just sit back and forget about it for a while. However, you do need to wait until you are fully recovered before you make the claim (assuming that is within the three year period). You want to be able to claim for all of the expenses the injury has incurred and if you claim too soon, you could miss out on some money.

It is a good idea to start looking for a solicitor quite quickly. Once you start looking, you will realise why. There are so many to choose from and you will need to decide if you want no win no fee solicitors, local ones, big well known brands or what. You can start doing some research and also contacting some companies. Do not let them rush you though, make sure that you take time picking the right company for you.

They should be able to advise you when to start the claim, although some might be anxious to get on with things because they need the work. If you are fully recovered, then there is nothing stopping you from going ahead. However, if you are still having treatment, then wait until you are recovered. But if it is getting close to your three year time limit, discuss matters with your solicitor.
